The week, famous among VH camps for its kitchen staffed with singing chef-overseers, will include a Georgian supra (feast) at mid-week, and will conclude with a concert in the chapel at St. Benedict’s Lodge, where we will be in residence during the camp.
Dynamic gospel leader Kathy Bullock from Berea, KY, will lead the group in a set of black spirituals and gospel music, weaving history into the singing as the group explores the connections between African American music, history, and its African origins. Kathy’s love of people and singing and her amazing enthusiasm always pervade the camps she leads.
Carl Linich, who has been teaching Village Harmony groups in the US and in the Republic of Georgia since 1999, will bring his vast knowledge and mastery of traditional Georgian music to the camp. He will teach a varied selection of songs from the different Georgian regions, including wedding songs, work songs, heroic songs and sacred hymns.
Gideon Crevoshay, born in the hills of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, grew up singing and traveling with Village Harmony around the globe. He will teach from his repertoire of traditional and ancient forms of singing from the US and the Mediterranean.
In residence at St. Benedict’s Lodge, McKenzie Bridge, Oregon
